About

Welcome to you can observe a lot just by watching: thoughts and insights into the worlds of television and film.

My name’s Mark Davidson, and I’m originally from Northern Ireland, but now living in Edinburgh, Scotland.

This blog is a result of my love of filmed narratives and a willingness to write about that passion.  Each article is a record of what goes through my head when I see the latest season of my favourite show or the latest feature in my local multiplex.

My favourite tv shows  include Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Wire and Friday Night Lights. As for film, I’d certainly put There Will Be Blood, Toy Story and Pan’s Labyrinth in my top ten.

This blog used to be over at http://thosewhoaredumber.blogspot.com but as of 5th June 2010, it and all my posts have been moved over here to wordpress.

Since starting this blog I’ve had the opportunity to work as press for Edinburgh International Film Festival, Glasgow Film Festival, and Berwick Film and Arts Festival.

I’ve also written articles for Burnside Writers Collective, “an online magazine for Christians looking for a connection with the world outside of franchise Christianity.” and Reel Scotland.

In addition I’ve been fortunate enough to be featured on the Guardian’s Edinburgh website, as well as on slashfilm.

I’m always looking for new and exciting things to write about. So if you work for a publication or website and would like me to write reviews/features , or if you are working in film or television and want me to review your latest project, please contact me via observealot(AT)gmail(DOT)com and hopefully we can sort something out.

  1. Mark, well done with the blog. Just seen a French film called ‘Father Of My Children’. Interesting and certainly worth a watch as an anitdote to the – ‘car chase’, ‘gun’ and plot driven silliness that is Hollywood. Although, the film does have a gun in it. It’s an understated look at duty, obligation, value. Regards, Edward from Waterford, friend of the B family.

Hey, just noticed that you’re originally from Northern Ireland (ditto but unfortunately I’m still living here), well done on being Freshly Pressed! 🙂
